Thanks, Jan for sharing with us (on 7/4/98), reminiscences from your Aunt
Kate Bower Boyd's book, "As I remember", including the comments about WWI
and CO's in the Cordell, OK area, associated with the Washita congregation
of the COB.

After sharing several paragraphs, Jan, you make this comment:

I knew some members of that congregation very well, and my grandmother's
brother, Emanuel Smith, was the minister there at one time. And I certainly
remember the Merkey family asthe "mainstay" of that congregation. I suggest
that you contact Esther or Edith Merkey, who are listed in the McPherson
College Alumni Directory under their married names, as I believe that both
are from that congregation. I question the "Hamit" spelling, but Esther or
Edith should be able to assist you with the Mohler and "Hamit" names as
