Rick, Baltic is in Tuscarawas Co., on the border of Holmes and Coshocton
Co. My ancester, Lewis Row was the founder of that town, first called
Rowville. I am quoting from "A History of Baltic 1848-1948" by Clarence
Troyer, written for the centennial of that town, which my grandmother
attended.
"Church of the Brethren Previous to 1871, the members of the Brethren
Church worshiped at various places such as at a Mennonite Church north of
Shanesville, among members of the congregation, and in the Union Church at
the South end of Rowville. Feeling the need for a church home of their own,
the congregation appointed John Burger, Michael Domer, and Peter Neff as a
committee on building. Through their efforts ground was secured and a
church building erected in 1871 about one and one-half miles north of
Rowville, on what was known as the Christian Fisher Farm. Incidentally, the
door that used to lead into this old church, now leads into Henry
Chrisner's poultry house. Largely through the efforts of Rev. Michael H.
Shutt, the congregation indreased and in 1898 the present church home was
built about one-half mile north of Baltic. The following is a list of
ministers that served the congregation; Jacob Domer, Conrad Kahler, Wm.
Johnson, F.B. Weimer, J.K.L. Swinehart, Garbriel Neff, Michael H. Shutt,
Samuel J. Burger, Peter Showalter, John Nicholson, George LONG, Jacob Keim,
John Neff, Peter LONG, Josiah HOSTETLER, Edward Shepfer, Jacob Summers,
Jacob Domer, Eli Steele, Jacob Snyder, Jacob Kaub, Eli Holmes, John Yoder,
W.D. Fisher, Walter Keller, Martin Krieger, Albert Krieger, Paul Achreiber,
John McCormick and Frank McCune."

We visited is area several years ago. There is a graveyard not far from the
church and cared for by the church, The Burger Shutt Cemetery, in which
some ancestors graves were found. The LONG men were brothers of my gg
grandfather. Also in the Baltic area was Levi HOSTETLER, who married a
sister of these men. The Longs and Levi moved to LaGrange Co. IN in the
1860's. All were originally from Somerset Co. PA.
