Searching for family and ancestors of my great-grandfather, William Henry Bradford. He was born April 19, 1848, possibly even 1839 or 1841 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky.
When the Civil War broke out he resided in/near Haw Creek, Illinois and enlisted with the Union Army, 83rd Illinois Infantry. He received a ribbon from the Grand Old Army of the Republic at the Civil War Memorial Day celebration in Rock Island, IL (year unknown).
He married Susannah S. Malson of (W)Virginia August 10, 1873 in Belmont County, OH. Their 9 surviving children were:
Margaret Jane Bradford, b. 1874
Elizabeth Bradford, b. 1879
Martha Adeline Bradford, b. 1883
Lewis Frank Bradford, b. 1884
John Thomas Bradford, b. 1886
Anna Bradford, b. 1890
Ella or Ellen Bradford, b. 1893
Clark Spencer Bradford, b. 1895
Charles Howard Bradford, b. 1898
>From an 1880 Census, he, wife Susannah, daughters Maggie and Elizabeth, plus Susannah's brother John R.C. Malson lived in West Wheeling, Belmont Co., OH. On this same census, his father's birthplace is recorded as "Not Known", mother's birthplace "KY". His occupation was laborer.
It is believed that he left his family and went "West" probably by 1900 and may have died in 1919 or 1920.
