Hi all. after all the queries lately about NC Bradfords, both on the list and
on the message boards, I'm getting a very big interest in all this. I would
like to start a database (both on my computer and the "genealogy depository"
below) of all known Bradfords in NC and hopefully we can get them all
straightened out. It can get difficult at time, especiallys when the Granville
Co. area ones and the Mecklenburg Co. area ones both had David's and Samuel's,
and James's all at the same time. If you would like to help, send your line to
the list (or to me privately if you wish). This is what I would like for folks
to send:
generational info (any format you want) starting with the furthest back you go
(including those not in NC) and going forward: and example... Don't include
living relatives.
1. Great grandparents
2. Grandparents
3. Parents
dates and places for each generation: where/when born, married, died, buried,
baptized, etc.
Sources for your information. If you know for a fact that great great
grandfather David Bradford was born Oct. 18, 1850 in Poplar Tent, Cabarrus Co.,
NC (example only) because you have a copy of his birth certificate, let me/us
know that. Cite your sources for information that you know. If you don't
know, say this is information handed down generation to generation with no
specific source other than memory, let me know that as well.
Here is what I'll do: i already have a database on my computer called NC
Bradford's. Right now it is basically just my line and a few of the Granville
Co. Bradfords. What I will do is add your info to this, cite sources for
everything I can and also include your name and email in the sources (if you
want to use another address for the sources, please let me know what to use).
So, for the above example of David Bradford, I would put in the sources "Birth
Certificate of David Bradford" and then another source "Erin Bradford -
"
Then, after that file is fairly complete, I will use my ged to HTML program and
put this on the site.
What am I wanting to get out of this??? (I know some of you may be wondering
that! hehe) Basically, 3 things: 1. to see if there is actually any relation
between the 2 main lines. I really doubt it, but something like this, if
sucessful, will be able to show. 2. A database that I (and others) can use to
help researchers looking for Bradford's in NC. 3. Help people with common
ancestors on the list find each other. One thing that will help with the
sources, if more than 1 person gives me the same information, that will show up
in my sources and I can email back and say "hey, thanks for the info. Going
through the sources, I noticed so-and-so has the same line. You can contact
them at ." or "hey, thanks for the info. Looking in my
database I noticed that so-and-so has this same line, but about 2 generations
back further. You can contact them at ." It would be
great if this helps me find more about my own line, but in all reality, I think
I've gone back as far as I'm gonna get on my Bradford line. Us Mecklenburgers
(as far as I know), have been at the same brick wall for years. My main goal
with genealogy as a whole right now is to help others, hence my hosting the
NC/SC and IL/IN/IA chats (which by the way, my NC/SC chat is this Monday night,
9-10pm EST, in the room Celler at http://www.genealogyforum.org).
Anyway, I think that's all. I hope you'll contribute to this project and we
can get all these NC Bradford's figured out. Even if your line starts in MA
and ends up in Timbuktu, but a generation or 2 spent time in NC, send them on
to me. I know some of you probably won't contribute, and that's your own
choice to make, but for those who want to help, send them on to me or the list
and let's see if we can make some new connections with our lines. For those of
you not in NC and descended from Gov. William Bradford, I plan to do a similar
project in the future, but I want to start with NC. Same goes for those of you
with lines in PA that never made it to NC or descended from Gov. Bradford.
I'll get to you eventually :o).
