I am also desc. from this line. I show that my Joshua Bradford (June
23, 1710 - May 22, 1758) marr. to a Hannah Bradford (Apr 10, 1719 - May
22, 1758). Killed by Indians at Meduncook, Maine. They had Joseph
Bradford b. Mar 19 1750/51 and numerous other children. My notes, from
my great grandmother, Sarah Butler (1834-1911) who was a grand daughter
of Benjamin Butler & Huldah Bradford. Some of these notes are as
follows:
"Joshua's father, Israel Bradford, was lst cousin of Hannah's father,
Elisha Bradford. Israel's father Major William Bradford was an older
brother of Elisha's father, Joseph Bradford, and thus Joshua and Hannah
were 2nd cousins. Joshua & his wife Hannah both are great grandchildren
of the same couple: Gov. William Bradford of Plymouth & his 2nd wife
Alice Carpenter. Joshua and his wife Hannah had about 10 children. Son
Joseph, my ancestor, was the 4th child, and survived the May 22, 1758
attack by Indians."
"Joshua was a farmer, and lived near Meduncook, Friendship, ME. Both
Joshua and his wife were scalped and killed by Indians. Two sons,
Benjamin & Joshua (?) were taken captive. Joshua was grinding corn and
did not hear warning shot, or fear local Indians, having saved the life
of the chief from drowning when he fell through the ice. Maletiah and
Elisha hid under the bed. When Elisha cried M. ran out towards the fort.
Indians leaving started persuit. She had an ugly wound which severed two
lower ribs from her spine, and was rescued by soldiers from the fort.
The other children, (about 10 in all) were at the fort."
I am uncertain as to the Sarah Bradford you mention as wife of Joshua,
but would love to share info about all of these details. Names of all
the children, and so forth. Peter Burrows, Annapolis, MD. Surely we
could learn more about them via Mass. or Maine histories, but to date I
have not researched there.
