I have record of second marriage for Thomas Spottswood Hinde. There is a journal published online called the "Journal of Edmund Cavileer Hinde" (1849) In this journal, Belinda, Martha and Charles were orphans and living with the CAVILEER family in Clark Co., Ohio, but my impression was they were the children of Sarah and Thomas, (of second marriage) but I think I have that all wrong. The dates don't jive. Edmund speaks of his brother, sisters and his Uncle Charles (Cavileer Jr) in MN which is my gg-grandfather. I am really confused with all this. Thomas Spottswood Hindes second marriage was to Sarah O'Neil CAVILEER b. 1791 MD, d 1847, Mt Carmel, IL, daughter of Charles CAVILEER of Kent Co., MD. I went to the Minnesota Historical Society today. You may want to look into the "Draper Manuscript Collection for Thomas Spottswood Hinde". M192, Vol 1-41. I found some info, but the manuscripts are hard to read. The Wisconsin Historical Society has the original collection.
According to the papers this is what I have:
(These writings do not mention the wives first names but am sure they are mentioned somewhere in these films.)
1st marriage was Oct 19, 1809, moved from Chilliclothe in 1818 to Kentucky. In 1819 moved to Newport from ----. In 1820 to Mt. Carmel, IL. In 1823 moved back to Kentucky with
(?Cynthiana?) and took ---- in Newport. In 1827 25, Nov., my wife died, took residence in April 1828 at Urbana, Ohio. In 1828 Dec, 22, married the second time. In 1829 ------- ------- Mt Carmel, IL. In Oct 1834, removed to Mt Carmel, IL, spent two or three ---- there and here I am, been working for others and finding myself all my life and am now an old man.
Thos S. Hinde
In these papers it also mentions Martha Hindes mother was an orphan too and at the time, 1809, living with Doctor Richard Allison in Cincinatti, Ohio.
Also documented is mention of a magazine called the Methodist Review published in New York in 1829-1831. Thomas states mothers name as Belinda Bradford.
I was wondering seen its been awhile since you posted a message if you may have run into further info on the family?
If you would like to work with me please feel free to email me personally.
