Message Board Post:
I am searching for information on my Bradford/Broadfoot line. My great grandfather was *supposedly* Adam Bradford m. to Agnes MacGowan. They lived in Ayrshire at the time my grandmother was born (1900). My mom was told that Adam was born in Northern Ireland, but that the family returned to Scotland. She was also told that the Bradford name had originally been Broadfoot, but wasn't sure when exactly it all changed.
In looking around, I stumbled onto a database that listed "Irish Strays" living elsewhere during the 1881 UK census. There appears to be a family of Bradfords & Broadfoots in Ayrshire, but no "Adam" is listed in 1881. As my grandmother was the 3rd child in her family, I feel certain Adam would have been born before 1881. I'm pretty sure this is the correct family as there is a "Matilda" listed, and my mom had her down as Adam's mother.
Also, my grandmother told me back in 1970 (at least)--way before "Braveheart"--that we were descended from the Wallaces. On the IGI, I found a whole nest of Broadfoot/Bradfords--William B. married to an Eliza/Elizabeth Wallace. *Their* kids names are some of my family names. Some of the kids are listed as Bradfords & others as Broadfoots.
If anyone recognizes these families or has any other suggestions, please e-mail me. I found the microfiche numbers for the 1881 census on the LDS site, and will order them if necessary. I don't live that close to a center, so it's a pain unless I have a bunch of stuff to look thru.
Thanks,
Jane
