SUNAPEE-Edith L. Ruggles Bradford, 96, of Georges Mills, died yesterday at Genesis Healthcare in Lebanon. She was born in Georges Mills, the daugher of Fred and Florence (Putney) Collins. She was a lifelong resident of Georges Mills. She attended Sunapee Schools. She worked as housekeeper and companion for area families for more than 20 years. Ruggles Bradford was a correspondent for the Manchester Union Leader, the Argus Champion, the Claremont Eagle, the New London Speaker and the New London Directory. She was a member of St. Andre's Episcopal Church in New London. She was the last charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 40; past president of County 8 and 40; member of the Belknap Merrimack County Ladies Auxiliary Salon No. 548; former member of Martha Chapter No. 34 Order of the Eastern Star; and a 70-year member of the Georges Mills Ladies Aid Society. Survivors include a son, Ellsworth Ruggles of Toomsuba, Miss.; two daughters, Leona McAllister !
of Penacook and Barbara Ruggles of Claremont; a brother, Richard Collins of Claremont; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Her first husband, Elmer Ruggles died in 1964. Her second husband, William Bradford, died in 1990. A son, Richard Ruggles, died in 1993. Four brothers, Ernest Collins, Henry Collins, Lawrence Collins and Dexter Collins, and three sisters, Harriet Axford, Hester Duplessis and Myra Rowe, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Georges Mills Cemetery, Georges Mills. The Rev. Dr. Frederick Stecker IV will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 294, New London 03257; or the Claremont Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 957, Claremont 03743. Chadwick Funeral Services, New London is in charge of the arrangements.
Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are. This is here as a lasting memorial for Mrs. Ruggles Bradford.
