Richard J. Bradford the first son of Charles D. Bradford of Fairfield Co. SC is frequently being misidentified as Richard Joshua Bradford. He is not Joshua. Joshua is the second son, according to a bit in The History of Gwinnett Co., Georgia. This same entry gives the children of Richard J. as belonging to Joshua. Joshua was a drinking, fighting man until he got religion in 1835 and became a minister in the Methodist church. His wife Mary in the 1860 census is given with the age 70 to his age 60. Richard J. on the other hand, is shown as age 55 in the 1850 census with a wife Mary age 53 and he is shown as a blacksmith.
