Subject: [BRADFORD-L] 2 suggested GEDCOM programs
Date: Wed, 4 Oct 2000 10:25:11 -0700

I knew when I wrote the thank you note to the list that I should have also mentioned the names of the programs suggested. I had just as many people asking for programs as I had suggesting them. So, for everyone who asked here are the 2 free/shareware programs suggested for reading GEDCOM files. (I know I mentioned 3 programs in the other Email but it was a mistake.) I haven't tried them out yet so I can't say how good they are yet.

#1: Personal Ancestral File 4.0 is totally free and is found at http://www.familysearch.org/ From there click on "Order Family History Resources" and from there click on "Software Dowloads Free".

#2: Brother's Keeper is a fully functional shareware program that can be found at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Brothers_Keeper/

I had about an equal number of people suggesting both programs. I think PAF is probably the more popular but I don't know if that actually makes it better than Brother's Keeper or not. Like I said, I haven't installed either of them yet. Both of them say they can import GEDCOM files so I guess that's all that matters to me. Hope this helps everyone and answers their questions.
