Hi Bonnie,
I am a fairly close cousin since I am from Bridget Polk and Thomas A. Clegg
through their son David Clegg who m. Eliza Bynum in Chatham Co., NC. My
great grandmother was their daughter, Martha Helen Clegg, who m. William B.
Atwater. If you have not seen The Cleggs of Old Chatham by Broughton you
should order it through interlibrary loan as it has all dates and other
interesting data.
Also look at The Adventurers of Purse and Person, the "Bible" of the First
Families of Virginia for our Fisher, Mattocks, and Smith lines for the first
four documented generations. Richard Smith came to Jamestown with a suit of
armor!
