Terry: My best info goes as follows:
Look at the will of Col. John Bradford, dated April 13, 1787 with a codecil
dated
October 5, 1787. It mentions Joseph John, youngest son in the Colonel's
first marriage (to Patience Reed). Joseph John usually referred to as John
Jr. He was born May 15, 1764. His father acquired the land referred to on
January 3, 1764
(Halifax Deed Book 9, page 272 - 192 acres). The entry in Book 16, page
400
involves the same 192 acres.
The 1786 tax list for Halifax county reports John Jr at home, so he was not
married at that time. However, note deed in Book 14, page 455 and dated
November 21,
1781 is witnessed by Elizabeth Loing. She also witnessed deed in Book 15,
page
page 539 dated September 20, 1785 and in Book 16, page 34, also dated
September 20, 1785.
Note the deed in Book 17, page 264, dated July 1, 1790 which states that
Josph John died intestate and that his land was divided among his brothers.
This indicates to me that the marriage to Elizabeth Long was never
consummated. Several researchers have concluded that Joseph John died 1790
without issue.
Hope this will help. Regards. Peter
