Subject: [BRADFORD-L] John Calvin Bradford

I am researching John Calvin Bradford. John is my greatgrandfather. Family
tradition suggests that he was born in Trenton, Gibson County, Tennessee, on
September 22, 1860. In spite of this information, two census records, 1900
and 1910, list his state of birth as Kentucky. I conclude that he was born
in either Tennessee or Kentucky.
The first reference that I have for him is in the 1884, Mayfield, Kentucky,
newspaper, called the Mayfield Monitor, on January 25, 1884. He and Mattie
Yarbrough are applying for a marriage certificate.
He had a daughter, Clara Evelyn Bradford, born September 13, 1885 in Graves
County, Kentucky. He had a son, Harry Cashion Bradford, born June 21 1894,
in Martin, Weakley County, Tennessee.
He appears in the 1900 census for Weakley County, Tennessee where he listed
his birth state as Kentucky. His fathers birth state is given as Tennessee
and his Mothers state of birth is listed as California.
He appears in the 1910 census for Colbert County, Alabama. His state of
birth there is listed as Tennessee. The birth state for both his parents is
given as Tennessee.
Similarly, he appears in the 1920 census for Sheffield, Colbert County,
Alabama. This time, his state of birth there is listed as Kentucky. This
time, the birth state for both his parents is given as Kentucky.
The final reference for him that I have is in the Friday, October 14, 1921
edition of the Sheffield Standard from Sheffield, Alabama, where his
obituary appears. He died on October 9 or 10, 1921.
If anyone has any information about John Calvin Bradford, or the Bradfords
of Gibson County, Tennessee, I would appreciate hearing from them.
