Questions to above: 1. What does the reference to Mobile AL on the cover
indicate ,
2. Was the land in AL or FL and why was the
Land office Tallahassee, FL if the land was in
Mobile AL.
3. What was B R BRADFORD doing in Tallahassee,
FL and named as " from Florida " if he
was living in Clarke co AL at least by the
1830 Census.

Titled: Final Certificate #1244 under the Act of 4
of May 1826 ( it appears that Brazil R
BRADFORD purchased land through the acquisition
of certificates for land from others who
obtained the certificates from the US Govt.) The
certificate was assigned several times and for all
practical purposes was an installment land
contract used to sell Govt Land. Doc1/1244 Certified
that Peter MARSH and George STEWART of Clarke Co,
AL did purchase ...... the following
demised lands Viz: Being fractional section 14,
T-9, R 4-E .....on which further credit has been
granted and to complete the payment due on said
land the said Brazil R. BRADFORD of The
Territory of FLORIDA.........The rest of the
certificate lists the monies due from the purchaser,
Dated 6 Dec 1816 in the amt of $544 @ 2.00 per ac
on 272 acs with payments made , at
1). Purchase , 6 Dec 1816 ----$136.00. 2.) The
Southern provision relinquished----$272.00
( evidently the purchaser decided to only
complete the purchase of the North part of the parcel ,
abt 136 acs. 3.) Aug 29 1826 here the purchaser
paid $35.00 and relinquished certificated for
the W 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of Section 24 Twp 9 ,

1816 purchase ...........( This doc sets forth the payment schedule for
installment purchase of land. The certificate stated that Martin PREWETT of
Clarke co, AL under the relief of purchaser of public lands ACT has
surrendered the original first certificate # 1151 Dated 2 Dec 1816 , Granted
to MARSH & STEWART and filed a relinquishment No 1160 Dated 27, Sep
1821 in which he relinquishes the south division of said Section and .....
credit on that division. Note: Is Martin PREVETT related to the PREVETTS
from Granville Co., NC and

related to the BRADFORDS

St Stephens, Demopolis and Cahaba are the Alabama Land offices that registered
land patents the areas each office covered changed over the years. Demopolis
- first entry made July 15 1833, St Stephens opened Dec 24, 1806, Cahaba was
originally at Milledgeville, GA and moved to Cahaba and opened Oct 20, 1818. The
areas covered by the various offices changed from time to time as did the
Alabama county borders. Therefor land now in Clarke CO, AL could have been in
Monroe and part of Dallas and Monroe ,made up Wilcox CO, AL. In order to fully
understand the dynamics of the above land transactions each needs to be plotted
to determine in which county they were when granted and where they now lie and
what was the disposition of these lands during the life of Brazil and Nathaniel
and what happened to them at the death of the BRADFORDS. Noted is the first
entry for Brazil R Bradford on Dec 6 1816. When this is( #1244 St Stephens land
office) received from the national archives it may lead to the relationship of
Brazil to his father, Thomas and his
other siblings .
