I received your letter and the Grants I beleive that the land grant to
Brawford is probably correct in that the Halifax sales by Thomas and
sarah were in 1768 and he could not be in SC and Nc at the same time.
Thomas BRADFORD of Halifax co. to James MOORE of same. 13 Aug. 1768. 30
pounds. 45 acs which was a part of a patent to David ROZAR, on Roanoke
River, Joining Richard MOORE, Saxen's Branch. Thomas BRADFORD(X) Sarah
BRADFORD(X) wit: Thomas Douglas IRBY, Charles Moore, James LETT. Aug
Court 1768. Examined by James HOGUN , Esq. Sarah BRADFORD relinquished
her dower. CC: Jos. MONTFORT.
This would mean he left after the above deed and before 1769 when the
land grant was laid out (grant in 1771) for Bradford Springs.
I note when I searched all the pre 1790 census that Thomas is in SC by
1775 with Samuel and Nathaniel , the Singletons , Nathaniel Pace ,
Jeremiah Brown and others they all are found in the 1778, 1780 Camden
District and in 1790 there are the Bradfords but a N Bradford is listed
in addition to Nathaniel Thomas is not there but is there in 1800 with
the same folks.
I need to have a look at the actual census page to see if there is a
mistake like the V Bradford that turned out to be Nath Bradford.
A cusorary examination I did , about 10 hours, comparing the list of
parolees from the 1780 Charleston list show many of the same folks in
the 1790 and 1800 census for Claremont co , SC.
I do not beleive there is much doubt that The Thomas Bradford who was
from Sumter (Claremont , and Camden before that)
Is the same person as the one captured in Charleston in 1780.
Now to prove that the Thomas and Sarah in halifax are the same as the
ones in Sumter that then go to Wilkes co GA
( Thomas dies in 1811 with a widow in Hancock co, GA)
I also am fairly convinced that Thomas Bradford in the 1786 Wilkes tax
list , Capt. Caller's district is a brother to Hosea (Osia in rev land
grant Franklin co, GA) Hosea is in Capt. Alexander's district in 1785.
Callers district is carved from the 1785 Capt. Alexander's district and
is in the far west side of Wilkes that became Hancock Co. I can trace
Thomas Bradford by his land, 79 acs from the grant to his death in 1811
when it is deeded to Thomas Hinson a son in law. Then we find Thomas JR.
in the same tax district in Hancock with Thomas SR in 1808 in fact next
to each other on the same water course.
BRADFORD Thomas Bradford , Sr is first found in Georgia in Wilkes Co
listed on the 1786
Tax list, in Capt CALLER's district, this district was created out of
Capt ALEXANDER's 1785
tax district.
Hosea BRADFORD (Josiah/Hosey/Osia/Osiah) is found in Capt Alexander's
district for 1785 .
Note: Information about Wilkes Tax Records is from, WILKES COUNTY,
GEORGIA TAX RECORDS,
1785-1805, Volume 1 , FRANK PARKER HUDSON.
This could indicate that Hosea and Thomas are related , probably
brothers . These men both die in
Hancock Co, Ga. Hosea passed away in late1799 ( his estate is appraised
on 19 April 1800 and
other entries pertaining to the estate assets and appointment of
administrators date from 1799 to
April,1800 , no will can be located). Robert Rivers is appointed
administrator and signs the
statement of "monies paid" (Robert Rivers is shown to be a neighbor of
Thomas Bradford in later
documents in Hancock Co). M. ( Myles?) Greene is listed as clerk . If
this is in fact the same
Myles Greene that is listed as "my friend" in Thomas Bradford's will,
then it could indicate a
connection or Myles Greene may be an official of the court which would
account for his
appearance in both estate papers of Hosea and Thomas Bradford). Thomas
Bradford dies shortly
after his will and deed to Thomas Hinson (For the 79 acres ) are signed
in June,1811. Myles
Greene and Tim Bradford (X) appear as witness to the signature of Thomas
Bradford on the deed
to Thomas Henson/Hinson in --- June 1811.
No doubt father and son or Nephew and uncle ???
