This doesn't add much to the discussion, but what little I know confirms
Bob's point.

My own (well, my wife's) line of Bradfords traces to Yorkshire,
England. A primary researcher who has gathered a lot of evidence,
Russell L. Bradford of San Pedro, California (he is not online so far as
I know) reports that the line may be reliably traced to William Bradford
who married Elizabeth Chambers on Apr. 12, 1719 in St. Peter's Church in
Leeds, Yorkshire, England. In his newsletter -- sorry, it's at home so
I'm working from memory here (always dangerous!) -- states that he has
been working for quite a while to tie this branch of the Bradfords into
more populous families of the same name in the vicinity of Yorkshire.
No success as of last point ... but it does point out that, by the early
18th Century there were enough Bradfords in those parts that we cannot
now identify the common ancestry of all of them ... suggesting they had
been in place quite a while there.

Btw, as we know for certain that our Bradfords are not at all connected
to the first colonies in America, we are usually 'out' on most Bradford
family discussions. Our immigrant ancestor from England came over in
1773 (approx).
