To begin....
Bartholomew McArthur/Arthur is recorded as dying in Groton Conn. he was
born in Scotland or Ireland and came to this country in approx 1725.
His son Richard Arthur is born in 1745 in Groton Conn. and dies in
Westfield Mass. in 1790.

Richard is married to Hannah Bradford and here is her information--
Hannahs parents:
Abner Bradford is born in Plymouth Mass in 1707 and dies in Kingston
Mass.
His wife is Susannah Porter born in Abington, Mass in 1709/10 no info on
where she died.
Hannah Bradford is born in Kingston Mass. in 1750/51

Hannah and Richard have children who marry these spouses:
Orrin Moore a native of Mass.
Martha Patty Moore (Orrin's sister) also a native of Mass.
Rheuma Ely from Springfield Mass.
Sibyl Shaler Bush born in Chatham Conn.
(note: Sibyl Shaler Bush was the granddaughter of Capt. Moses Bush who
owned a shipyard in Chatham Conn.and during the Revolution built and
launched the following ships: TRUMBULL of 700 tons and 36 guns and the
BOURBON of 900 tons and 40 guns......is there anyone out there that
could tell me more about these?)
I believe that Richard Arthur was a ships carpenter and may have been
employed by Bush.

And so, Richard Arthur dies in Westfield Mass. in 1790 and in 1802/3
Hannah Bradford Arthur moves with her children to Martinsburg, Lewis
County New York. Many of these first settlers to Martinsburg are from
the Westfield area. Would the move have been from lands given for
service in the Revolution? At that time people were also being
encouraged to move to Northern New York in order that it be settled to
help discourage any infiltration from the north (canada).
Any insights appreciated!
