Subject: [BRADFORD-L] word of the week...how I found my line AND Alabama
Date: Tue, 25 Aug 1998 12:21:03 PDT
This week, there are going to be 2 "words/phrases of the week". I like
the idea of everyone posting their most unusual place they found the
info or any stories, maybe someone has been searching for their family
for years and then suddenly they found it right under their nose....the
one place they didn't even think of! I think this can be a great one,
not only for "entertainment" and reading amusement, but their may be
someone on the list in the same prediciment and get an idea from the
stories. I don't know how well this will go over though, it could be
that most people on the list stick with the old standby's of census and
birth/death/marriage certifitcates. Because of this, I'm also having
Alabama the other word of the week.
FOR NEWBIES: The way the "word of the week" works is I throw out a
topic and if someone has a line that falls into that topic, then they
are *supposed* to post it, unfortunately though, I think the majority of
the lists are lurkers, so not everyone really does. (I have no problem
with lurkers by the way, they just shouldn't expect to find their info
passively, they may be lucky that way, but they need to get active on
the list to find their lines sooner). For instance, this week, if you
have an unusual story like described above, post it to the list and/or
if you're line of Barringer, Black, Bradford, Coventry, Eller, Hackett,
or Kern were in AL, post that info also .
IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE:
To post your line, do NOT just hit "reply" to this message, because I am
not the list, just the listmaster!:) Start a clean message with the
"To" address as where "SURNAME" is the name of
the list (ex: , etc.) Also, do NOT send them to
as the "-request" address is ONLY for
subscribe and unsubscribe to the list and nothing more.
Good luck everyone, and please note that the CAPS in NOT and ONLY and
the "!" above are only for emphasis, not shouting:)
