My GG-Grandfather Joseph BRADFORD was born around 1798 in North
Carolina.

The 1820 census of Jefferson County, IL shows George, Abner, and Samuel

BRADFORD. Joseph is assumed to be the son of one of these three men.
(All three have children living with them). Joseph named his first son
Samuel.

Joseph and Abner served in the Black Hawk War of 1832. Abner was killed

in the battle of Kelloggs Grove, while Joseph lost his horse and saddle
in the same battle. Joseph died after 1880, and is buried in an
unmarked grave in Williams Cemetery near Mt. Vernon, IL.

Does anyone out there have any clues or links to this person? I am
hoping to find the connection to NC. Several of the posts from NC have
given names such as Joseph, Samuel, and Abner.

Hello John,

Your inquirey caught my eye since I have been attempting to locate information
on some Bradfords that I may have a connection to who settled in Caswell
County/Alamance County, NC in the 1750's. The other thing that caught my eye
was your last name: Hart . The same family with whom I believe there is a
Bradford connection, also has a Hart connection. Another point that makes
this interesting for me is the given name of Samuel in your Bradford line, as
that is a also a given name in the family I have been researching, King.

The major reason that I feel that there is a significant tie is that my
earliest King ancestor, John King, had his will witnessed by two Bradfords,
D. Bradford and Thomas Bradford. John King's wife was named Sarah (perhaps
Bradford) and there was a brother or son (never defined) Samuel who
predeceased John King. The name of Samuel carries down through many
generations.

I will be glad to share the data in a more complete form, if you think that
this may be a Bradford connection for you.

Best regards,

John Fox
