ORGANIZED: January 24, 1895, New York
OBJECT: "To bring together women of similar background of New England
ancestry to engage in charitable, educational and patriotic work and thus
perpetuate the lofty ideals and examples of their forefathers"
ELIGIBILITY: Any woman 18 or older descended from one or more ancestors born
in New England prior to the signing of the Constitution of the United States
in 1789. Junior membership is available to girls 6 to 17 years old.
MEETINGS: Board of Management meetings every October and May, and the Annual
Congress is held in May. Founder's Day is also celebrated the third week of
January.
PUBLICATIONS: The National Society of New England Women Yearbook, and the
quarterly The Clipper, both which update members on Society activities.
DUES: Vary according to which Colony of the Society you join.
CHARITABLE PROJECTS: Supports the Kurn Hattin Homes residential school for
underprivileged children at Westminster, Vermont; and the Clarke School for
the Deaf at Northampton, Massachusetts; supports numerous student loans at
Pacific University (Forest Grove, Oregon); Middlebury College (Vermont); Mount
Holyoke College (South Hadley, Massachusetts); Baldwin Wallace College (Berea,
Ohio); and Austin College (Sherman, Texas). Also supports a number of
veterans charities and services.
