Misc. Notes
"Eclipse Place?? Elijah Hawkins House -to the north of Georgetown on
the Cincinnati Pike facing Dry Run Creek are a group of farms on which
are homes dating from the early Kentucky to the late Victorian
architectural periods. .....The earliest owner on record was Elijah
Hawkins, who was married to Sophia, daughter of Fielding Bradford, who
left the 'Kentucky Gazette' around 1788 to farm in Scott County, Hawkins
in 1838 sold the 222-acre farm to Thomas H. Bradford, a cousin, who
occupied the property until 1849 when it was acquired as the result of a
court ordered sale by Ben Osburn, Jr. The sale was the result of a case
styled John Brand vs. Bradford, and involved the Bradford enterprises
which included a ropewalk, a nail factory, and hemp-related
investments. Bradford was a member of the state Senate between 1844 and
1846." 1
