Seeking family info re: Archibald Bradford b. March 02, 1783 d.
June 30, 1870 in Milton County, GA. Archibald married Margaret
Carson April 15, 1805 in GA. I know of one daughter Martha b.
about 1829, m. Joseph T. Ragsdell Jan 25, 1857 in Cherokee
County, GA. Abstract of his father's (George Bradford) will,
probated 7/6/1812 in Jackson County, GA did not include
Archibald. In the 1850 GA Census (Cherokee County) a child named
James N. Smith age 5 years was living in the household.
My g-g-grandfather was James S. Bradford, brother to Archibald.
James was married to Mary A. P. Cook. Their daughter Martha E.
Bradford who married John Adam Brewer was my g-grandmother. She
and John Adam moved from GA to AR in 1869. I have in my
possession two letters written by Mary to her
daughter Martha in Arkansas dated Jan 9, 1871 and July 29, 1874.
These provide an interesting snapshot of Mary's life citing first
names that provide fodder for genealogy research. At times she's
ticked off and sometimes soap operish. For example in the 1871
letter Mary reports "your Aunt Peggy[Margaret Carson Bradford]
was quit well & pert but they are all at dugers ends about your
Uncle Archys estate they have been thretning Smiths life but he
aint dead yet". (I try to be accurate in quoting Mary including
her spelling). I have a lot of info about the Bradfords in AR
(an uncle and a brother preceded Martha in moving there). I have
questions about others in Cherokee/ Milton Counties in GA. but my
query regarding Archibald may help in finding contacts.
Specific questions about Archibald:
Did Archibald have other children?
Who was James Smith?
John Brewer
