1. James M.1 BRADFORD was born September 28, 1795 in Culpepper County,
Virginia (1850 census says KY), and died March 03, 1852 in Bradfordton,
Sangamon County, Illinois. He married (1) Ann E. BARNES July 04, 1820 in Port
Gibson, Mississippi. He married (2) Arsenath/Arsena TALBOTT December 27, 1836
in Sangamon County, Illinois.

Was in Co. B., Col Doniphan's regiment and marched overland to Mexico. Col
Doniphan had orders, on arriving at Chihuahua, to report to Gen. Wool. He was
unable to learn the whereabouts of Gen. Wood and Thomas A. Bradford was one of
six men who volunteered to carry through the dispatches, which they delivered
to Gen. Wool at Saltillo, having gone the distance of three hundred miles,
through an enemy's country, without the loss of a man. He was, with John
Calhoun, engaged in the survey of public lands for the U. S. Government, and
died Dec. 25, 1856, near Wyandotte, Kansas, his wife and only child having
died before.
