Subject: Bradford/King Family Relationship

Hello everyone,

I have just joined the list and wanted to note why I am interested in the
Bradford Family. I am a descendant of John King, who settled in old Orange
County, now Alamance County, during the 1750's. He died leaving a will in
which he named no wife, leaving one to suspect that she had pre-deceased him,
and five sons: John, Edward, Thomas, Armour, and William. Two men witnessed
his will: Thomas Bradford and D. Bradford. I have found no record of any
intermarriage of these two families; but I also do not know the origin of the
King family prior to their coming to the Alamance County area. So the
question is still out on any earlier relationship. I have found in my years
of researching other families, that it is more often than never, that kinsmen
were used as witnesses to wills and other documents, especially when a family
settled into a new area and close relationships were not necessarily developed
in time to get to know a trustworthy individual in the community.

I have strong feelings that perhaps John King's wife had been a Bradford; but
I am not closed to the idea that perhaps one of his son's was also married to
a Bradford. My ancestor, Edward King, one of John's sons, had a wife named
Sarah, last name unknown to me. I know that the name Sarah is rather popular
in the Bradford family.

If anyone has any knowledge of ties between these two families, I will enjoy
hearing from you, and would appreciate any assistance that you may be able to
provide.

Best regards,

John Fox
