Mary Dobson, our eminent family historian and author of the 1980
publication, "The Bracegirdle Book" has at last after twenty-five years
broken down our brick wall. William Bracegirdle has been found.
While visiting a friend with the new Vital Records CD a search found
Williams birth and christening dates, and also a sister in London.
Subsequent verified research has found his parents, an uncle, grandparents,
two brothers and another sister.
William is the ancestor of our Australian and New Zealand families, and
other family members still living in the United Kingdom. For more
information on William's life, see "A Fisherman of Greenwich" published in
2002.
Despite some prior speculation as to the accuracy of his date of birth, 1782
is confirmed as the correct date. The jury is still out about the actual
place of birth, as family tradition has it as Charing Cross.
However, further research has revealed his parents, brothers and sisters,
grandparents and we look forward to tracing our ancestors, possibly to the
reputed ancestral centre of Cheshire
Mary Dobson is in the process of updating her records on the family and
adding more documented evidence to her family saga.
To date we have
Philip Bracegirdle - born 1752. He and Anne Green married in 1771
Children:
Harriot born 1772
Elizabeth - born 1779
William - born 1782
Philip - born 1784
John - born 1785
There may be other children. Confirmation is awaited on another not shown.
Philip's parents were Philip and Mary Bracegirdle.
