For Bill and others who are asking similar question:
The Y-DNA test is only valid for tracing male ancestors of the Bowles
line. Since Bill's Bowles ancestor is female (Sarah Bowles) this test
will not help him with his Bowles ancestors.
Bill,
If Sarah Bowles had a brother, and you can trace male Bowles
descendents from that brother, then one of them could test and it
might help you with her ancestors.
There is also a test that follows the maternal line, but it will not
help you unless Sarah is in your direct maternal line which goes this
way:
your mother to your mother's mother to your mother's mother's
mother, etc.
Even if this is true for you, then such a test would only point to
Sarah's mother, not her father.
