Manning,
Feel free to ask whatever you like about him or her here on this list --
the list itself has much looser rules than the message board does.
In order to ask on the message board for BOICE, you would need to clearly
state that the name was represented as BOICE at some point in time --
otherwise the message would have to be considered off topic for the board.
What some of you may not realize is that any messages posted to the
message board also come here to this list. This whole thread began as a
message on the message board which was gatewayed here to the paired
mailing list, but since then, the discussions have been only on the list.
So to recap:
Mailing list rules == must pertain to BOICE in some way, but alternate
spellings are quite welcome.
Message board rules == must specifically mention BOICE as a surname
somewhere in the message -- otherwise, it's off topic and will either be
moved or deleted.
That said, there are separate mailing lists for:
BICE
BISE
BOYES
BOYCE
BOYS
BOYSE
BUIS
BUYS
And there are separate message boards for:
BICE (paired with the BICE mailing list)
BISE (paired with the BISE mailing list)
BOIES
BOISE
BOYCE
BOYES (paired with the BOYES mailing list)
BOYS (paired with the BOYS mailing list)
BOYSE (paired with the BOYSE mailing list)
BUICE
BUIS
BUISE
BUYS (paired with the BUYS mailing list)
I don't know that all of the above spellings are necessarily variants of
BOICE, but I know some of them are. I must say however that I am
surprised that there is no list or message board for BUIES, which is what
my uncle believes the original Dutch surname was (he's been researching
our BOICE family since the early 1960's). The license plate on his car
reads "BUIES".
