I have no genealogical connection to either the McKnall or Black families but I am compiling a booklet about former rural and early school teachers once of Elk and several nearby counties. A distant cousin who was once a rural teacher in Spring Creek Twp where her grandfather owned the land where a very rural one-room school house was built attended the school herself as a young girl and her grandmother also taught there. She wrote that Miss Bell (nee Black) McNall was an early teacher at possibly one of the earliest schools in the area which was located on a steep hillside in Spring Creek Twp. and was, for certain, a teacher at the Perrin school located at the top of the same hill. She also wrote that Hannah Black (possibly a sister) was a teacher in the same school. I would like to find out about their teaching background, their education, and if they continued to teach, and what happened to them. Obits for both ladies would no doubt answer many questions. I believe !
I have a copy of a picture of Bell (nee Black) McKnall when she was teaching at Perrin. I would also like to have a copy of a picture of Hannah Black to put in the booklet. That's probably too much to hope for. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.
