I'm looking for all information on my great grandfather, Jacob Black. He was born in Ireland around 1840, but I don't know when or where he came into the U.S.
I happen to know he served in the Alabama legislature in 1867 (carpetbagger) and he appears in the 1870 census as a tax agent in Barbour County, Alabama.
A decade later he and my great grandmother Fannie Black are raising three daughters in Mobile. A land deed from 1899 lists Fannie Black as a widow, so I'm guessing he died somwhere in the 1890s.
One of these days I hope to trace his entire life from Ireland to the grave, wherever that might be.
