Maryellen,

According to LDS records and information contained in a message by Janet Rohlfs on the Black Family Genealogy Forum, Pauline Black's real given names were Perlina Ann who could have been born as early as 1828 in Tennessee and died in 1902 probably in Illinois. Perlina married Moses Black Atkins In about 1850 probably in Marshall County, Tennessee. Perlina Ann Black was the daughter of John D. Black (b. about 1795 probably in North Carolina and d. 1846) and Rhoda Allen (b. about 1798 in North Carolina and d. 1855). John Black and Rhoda Allen had the following children, i.e., Louisa, Samuel Allen, Perlina Ann, Robert C., and Martha Jane. Moses Atkins and Perlina Black had the following children of record, i.e., Andrew Jackson (b.1851 and d. 1853), Myra Ann Elizabeth (b. 1854 and married Robert Alexander Roberson), Rhoda A. E. (b. 1857), Louisa Jane "Eliza" (b. 1860), Pomelia (b. 1862 and married William "Bud" Smith), Edward Charles (b. 1868 and married Wastella Wallace and!
Marthena Baker), and Van Amberg (b. 1871). In the 1880 Census, as you well know, Moses Atkins states that he was born about 1833 in Tennessee and was working in a sawmill in Elk Prairie, Jefferson County, Illinois, and had living with him his wife Pauline (Perlina) and children Pamilia (Pomelia), Edward, and Van. I have not been able to find the parents of John D. Black as the available records do not seem adequate to tie him to the estimated birth year and place of birth. Hope this helps some and let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Arlin Benjamin
