Joan,
If you can believe what is contained in the LDS database, your Charles Black is actually Alfred Charles Black who was born about 1841 in Moncton, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada. Alfred married Sophia M. Voute (sometimes seen a Vonte) on 13 September 1870 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Alfred's parents were Charles Freeze Black (b. 1813 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada and d. 1860 in Canada) and Margaret Steadman (b. 1816 in New Brunswick, Canada and d.1847 in Canada). This lineage goes further back in time with first Charles' parents who were Thomas Stocks Black (b. 1766 in Yorkshire, England and d. 14 January 1850 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada) and Mary Freeze (b. 1776 in Amherst Point, Nova Scotia, Canada and d. 9 July 1842 in Canada), second with William Black and Elizabeth Stocks from Yorkshire, England, and third, it appears that this Black lineage originated in Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland. Afraid that this is all that I have but hope it helps some.
