Start with a map of GA for that timeframe. You would be very surprised at county and state lines. On another list I belong to some individuals believe their ancestors where born in E. TN for the same time frame, it wasn't E. TN but really NC. So records can be located in NC.
Sorry I can't help with your John, mine where from NC. I recently met a cousin who claims my Blacks where from TN. When I have asked his documentation, he claims the family Bible and all of the E. TN records are wrong. When I sent him documents from NC, he's not replying. Ya sure. I've been doing genealogy for over 30 yrs. and realize their are some records with errors but not like he claims.
