Clayton,

I have some early genealogical data on Melton A. Black that may be of interest to you. My records show that Melton A. Black was born about 1871 in Georgia (probably Jefferson County) and married Julia J. Clayton on 8 February 1873 in Chatham County, Georgia. Melton was the son of Andrew T. Black (b. ~1851 in Georgia) and Susie or Susan E. Stevens (b. ~1854 in Georgia and married Andrew on 14 June 1870 in Jefferson County, Georgia). The 1880 Census shows Andrew T. Black and Susie Stevens living in Jefferson County, Georgia with their children, i.e., Melton (b. ~1871 in Georgia), Russel (b. ~1873 in Georgia), Marsellus (b. ~1874 in Georgia), James (b ~1879 in Georgia), Unnamed Twins (b. 1880 in Georgia). In addition Kittura Stevens (b. ~1816 in Georgia) the mother of Susie was also living with them. The parents of Andrew T. Black were Joshua Lee Black (b. ~1814 in Georgia) and Michell Wells (b. ~1816 in Georgia). Joshua Lee Black and Michell Wells were married on 30 Nove!
mber 1832 in Jefferson County, Georgia and had the following children, i.e., Emily, Joseph W., William H., Sarah A., Susan E., Andrew T., Spencer L., Samuel, and Marcilles A. It is likely that the parents of Joshua Lee Black were Robert Black (b. May 1775 in Warren County, Georgia) and Levicie Burton (b. ~1783 in Virginia). Robert Black and Levicie Burton were married on 18 March 1795 in Georgia but I have not been able to identify all of their children. It also likely that Robert Black's father is William Black but I have no further information on him. Most of the above information comes from Georgia Census records or from the LDS database. I have no information on Melton and Julia's family. Hope this helps some.
