My Samuel married Mary Ann (or Nancy Jane) Rightnowar in 1839, Jefferson Co, IL. They had Henry, 1839, Mary Ann, 1841, Amanda 1845 and Rosa in 1847. Mary Ann? died about 1849, and Samuel married Mary E Thompson in 1850. They had General Wade, 1851, Martha Jane, 1852 and John Robert, in 1857, all in Jefferson Co. IL.
Note the confusion in Samuel's first wife. IL marriage records name Mary Ann as his wife, yet a biography of her father on the Jefferson Co Genweb site cites Samuel as having married Nancy Jane Rightnowar.
Saml's son Henry had at least 3 wives, including Dica ( Dicy) Ann Hill. They apparently divorced, but not before giving birth to John A Black in 1861. He married Sarepta Thomason in Wayne Co, IL in 1879. They had many children, including my grandfather, Ralph Black born 1893 in Tuscola , Douglas Co IL.
If anything sounds familiar, Happy to trade notes. You can email me at . The names you've given are all familiar, but I've been concentrating on finding out anyhing I can about Samuel beyond his birthdate of 1810 in TN. He's very enigmatic, and while I believe that many of the Black's in the SE Illinois area are related, I haven't sorted it yet.
Best of luck
Russ Black
