James J. Black, 83, Aurora, died May 27, 2004 at Provena McAuley Manor.
He was born October 8, 1920 in Steubenville, a son of the late Raymond and Bernice ( Bates ) Black.
He served in the US Army during World War II. He fought in the battle of Anzio under General George Patton. He also participated in the invasion of Normandy and was in many dangerous combat situations. He retired from Superior Beverage after many years of enjoyable service. As a young man he had great pleasure in boating and later became an avid fan of golf, he loved sport and relished his many friendships with fellow golfers.
He was preceded in death by his parents ; a sister, Martha B. ( Richard H. ) Spencer and a nephew, David Richard Spencer.
Surviving are his nieces Susan S. ( Bruce A. ) Martin and Martha Jane Spencer and many friends and business associates.
A memorial service was held June 6, 2004 from the Healy Chapel in Aurora.
Interment will be private in Cadiz Union Cemetery, Cadiz, Ohio.
