Dave,
I am not part of your Black Family lineage but have some information on your Benjamin Franklin Black (b. 1838 in Arkansas) that may by chance be of interest. Benjamin Franklin Black was the son of James Harvey Black (b. 1802) and Nancy Barnet (some records show her middle name as Bannet) Wheaton (b. ~1804 and married James Black on 16 September 1823 in Hempstead County, Arkansas). James and Nancy Black had the following children other than Benjamin Franklin Black, i.e., Jonathan Calderwalder Black (b. 1827 in Hempstead County, Arkansas and married first to Mrs. Elizabeth Galloway on 21 September 1854 in Robertson County, Texas ans second to Eliza Henson on 27 April 1857 in Robertson County, Texas), William Wheaton Black (b. 1829 in Hempstead County, Arkansas and d. ~1903 in Comal County, Texas and first married Mary A. Henson on 24 June 1854 in Robertson County, Texas and second to Susan Elizabeth Talley in 1866 in Wilson County, Texas), James H. Black (b. 1840 and d. unkn!
own date in Coryell County, Texas), and Mary Black (married Elijah Raenno on 12 January 1841 in Sevier County, Arkansas). There may have been additional children but I do not have any records that show this to be the case. In 1860 Benjamin Franklin Black was living in Winn Parish, Louisiana and in 1870 he was living in Natchitoches County, Louisiana. The 1880 Census shows Benjamin Franklin Black as a farmer living in Limestone County, Texas with his wife Emily Paralee Edwards Ingraham, a stepson Alonzo Ingraham (b. ~1861 in Louisiana), a son Ben [Benjamin Harvey] Black (b. ~1861 in Louisiana [actually b. 29 October 1860 in Shreveport, Louisiana), a daughter Olive Black (b. 1872 in Louisiana), a nephew George Tegel (b. ~1874 in Texas), an adopted son Rufus Connerham (b. ~1876 in Louisiana), and his father-in-law William Ingraham (b. ~1808 in South Carolina). The father-in-law was possibly the father of Emily Paralee Edwards' first husband. Benjamin Franklin Black was pos!
sibly married three times according to the records I have seen. The n
ame of of one of his wives I have never found. However, one of his wives prior to his marriage to Emily was Frances E. Salter (b. 1824 and d. 1866) and had at least two of Benjamin's children, i.e, Benjamin Harvey Black and James F. Black (b. 1859). This Black Family lineage goes back in time from James Harvey Black and Nancy Barnet Wheaton to Jonathan Augustus Black (b. 1768 in Pennsylvania and d. 1836 in Hempstead County, Arkansas) and Mary Unknown to John Black (b. 1720 and d. 1790 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania) and Abigail Lowry (d. 1794 in Pennsylvania). According to the records submitted to the LDS database by Thomas Black (935 Sonora Court, San Dimes, California 91773) the lineage from John Black/Abigail Lowry can be traced back to James Black/unknown spouse to Robert Black/Ann unknown to George Black/unknown spouse to William Back/unknown spouse. I have never seen any proof of this early lineage but you might try and contact Thomas Black (if the address is s!
till valid) and identify his sources of information. You probably had all the above information and have corrected the many errors that it may contain. However, I hope the information adds some value to your quest.
Arlin Benjamin
