Jim,
The information that Susanne Jones provied to your inquiry agrees with the information I have on Dee Black. Dee Black was the son of Winfield Scott Black (b. March 1846 in Virginia) and Eleanor (Elleanore) Bailey (b. December 1841 in Taylor County, Virginia). Eleanor Bailey was the daughter of William Bailey and Susanne Newlon of Virginia. The Bailey lineage goes back many generations in Virginia. Winfield Scott Black and Eleanor Balily had five children of record, i.e., Willie C. Black (b. ~1871 in West Virginia), Memie (also seen as Minnie L.) Black (b. 2 April 1876 in West Virginia and d. 15 July 1946), May Black (b. ~1877 in West Virginia), Nelson Black (b. ~1879 in West Virginia), and Dee Black (b. March 1884 in West Virginia). The region that Winfield Scott Black resided may have changed from Virginia to West Virginia over time. The 1880 Census shows Winfield to be a farmer born in Virginia living in Glenville, Gilmer County, West Virginia with wife Eleanor and f!
our children, i.e., Willie, Memie, May, and Nelson. All the children are shown to have been born in West Virginia. Winfield states in this census that his parents were from Virginia and this was also true for his wife Eleanor. I have not as of yet been able to establish the parents of Winfield Scott Black. Hope this helps some and let me know if I can be of further assistance.
