Message Board Post:

Seeking birthplace and parents of James Black, who is buried at Mt. Harmony Methodist Church cemetery near the Cleveland-Rutherford NC county line off of Hwy. 226. The deteriorating gravestone indicates James died Sept. 27, 1827, at the age of 72, placing his birth circa 1755. He is buried next to his wife, Rachel. No dates are given for Rachel but the same gravestone indicates she was 86 at the time of her death.

James apparently did not participate in the Revolutionary War. As far as I can determine, he does not appear in any Patriot or Loyalist listings.

Several other amateur genealogists have posted GEDcom files on Rootsweb specifically listing James and Rachel as the parents of Moses and Lydia.

Moses Black married Patience Condrey, whose parents apparently were from VA. He is on a regimental list of the 1812 militia in old Rutherford County NC.

Those gedcoms also identify one sister of Moses, Lydia, who married Jacob Willis.

Several of the GEDcoms indicate that James was born in Virginia.

Any additional info available on James or Rachel would be greatly appreciated.
