Vicki,
The only William Black that I have any record of who was married to a McCloy was William Black (b. May 1788 in Ballymoney, Anterim, Ulster, Northern Ireland and d. 27 July 1866 in Bremen, Fairfield County, Ohio) who married Jane McCloy (b. 1790 in Northern Ireland and d. 9 March 1871 in Ohio and married William Black in about 1820). This William Black was too ill in 1790 to migrate to the United States with his parents and siblings and was left in Ireland to be cared for by his aunt Nancy Wiley. His parents William Black (b. 1761 in Ireland and d. 14 February 1844 in Bremer, Fairfield County, Ohio) and Mary Wiley (b. 1760 in N. Ireland and d. 11 November in Rush Creek Twp., Fairfield County, Ohio and married William in about 1781 in Ireland) made the long ocean trip to the United States in 1790 and initially settled in Miffin County, Pennsylvania but in 1811 migrated further west to Fairfield County, Ohio. The son William who was left behind in Ireland did not attempt to !
join his family until 1836. By this time he had married Jane McCloy and had four children, i.e., Robert John Black (b. 22 December 1822), Mary Wiley Black (b. 11 October 1824), Samuel Curry Black (b. 4 December 1826), and James Wiley Black (b. 4 March 1828). The extremely difficult trip to the United States was made with his family and his aunt Nancy Wiley with the intent to take the St. Lawrence River route but it was winter and much of the river was frozen. As a result the trip had to be made by wagons instead. Nancy Wiley did not survive the wagon trek and was buried at Prescot, Canada. William and family spent the winter in Buffalo, New York and did not arrive in Lancaster, Ohio until the spring of 1837 and joined his parents and siblings a short time thereafter. Jane McCloy could be the daughter of Neal McCloy and Jane Dickson (who migrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania) as they did have a daughter by this name (and also a daughter Nancy) in the correct time perio!
d. I have found no record of William Black and Jane McCloy having add
itional children after arriving in Ohio. This may not be the family you are searching for but some excellent information and references are provided at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi by putting in William Black's name and McCloy as his spouse. The parents of the William Black who married Mary Wiley were William Black and Margaret Wiley who were both born about 1730 in Ireland and never migrated to the United States although all their children did leave Ireland for the New World. Hope this information is something that you can use.
