In case you have not seen it, the 1880 U. S. Census shows a Van Black living in Roberts, Hall County, Georgia with his wife Nancy and four children. Van Black is listed as being born in Georgia in about 1844 while Nancy lists her birth year as about 1840 in Georgia. Both Van and Nancy show their parents being born in South Carolina. The four children living with Van and Nancy are Noah Black (b. ~1870 in Georgia), Martin (b. ~1867 in Georgia), Jane (b. ~1872 in Georgia), and Clarie (b. ~1875 in Georgia). There is no mention of a Marshall Black living at home. There is a Marshall C. Black (b. ~1870 in Georgia) living with his father Thomas Black in Jackson County, Georgia in the 1880 Census but no Marshall in Gwinnett or Hall Counties, Georgia. Wish I had more but this is it for now.
