Linda,

Other than the 1870 and 1880 census records for Rush County, Indiana, I doubt that you will find any information on the web regarding your Jerry, Elizabeth, Ida, Jesse and Lucky Black. I suggest that you contact the Rushville, Indiana Public Library, 130 W. 3rd St., Rushville, IN and phone (765) 932-3496 or the Rush County Historical Society, P. O. Box 62, Homer, IN 46146 and see what they can find for you and what it will cost for their services. The Rush County Poor Asylum and Orphans Home was actually two separate organizations, i.e, one addressed the poor of the county and the other orphans that required a home at county expense. Elizabeth Black who was born about 1848 in Indiana could have actually been the mother of one or more of the Black children you listed. She was likely residing in the Poor Asylum while the baby Ida was living in the Orphans Home. In the 1880 Census Elizabeth lists her parents as being from Kentucky and the infant Ida is shown as having her !
mother born in Kentucky. Interesting but does not really provide any insight into why the children were either in the Orphanage or in the Children's Home run by Jennie Huddleson. Good luck in finding the answers.
