Hi Laurie...my gr/gr/gr grandparents are Henry and Susanna (Carey) Black.

I don't think this is the line you're looking for.

Their 11 children are:

William (m Margaret Like Nov 1857), Rachel (m. James Firestone Apr 1877), Elizabeth (m. John C. Slieghter Mar. 1872), Matilda Ann (m. James Madison Davis Feb 1866), John (m Margret Statser May 1866), Robert F. (married Sarah Claphan Jan 1867), Thomas Jefferson, Avery (died at 16), Isaac Wm. (married Alice Dodge Aug 1878, Roy is their son), Mary Jane and Charles C. (m Charlotte A. Dodge May 1878). It is possible that Mary Jane could be the mother of Frank Church as we have no confirmation of a marraige for her.

Our family lore indicates Black family is of German heritage and possibly carried the name Schwartz prior to their appearance in Ohio. We have been unable to get a handle on Henry's parentage at this time.

We have discovered there are two (at least) distinct lines of Blacks that settled in both Perry Co. and Hardin Co. Just another interesting twist to make our research a bit more "fun".
