Rennie,

I have very little information on your William Black but thought maybe what I had would be of some help. From what I can tell from the limited records of the Dodge/Jefferson Counties Genealogical Society it appears that William and his wife Elizabeth (Eliza) are buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery near Watertown, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. Although most records I have seen for William show him to have been born in 1824 probably in Dromore Parish, Down, Ireland his tombstone shows his birth date as being 15 May 1827 and his death date as 28 March 1901. Elizabeth's birth date is not give on the tombstone but her death is shown as being on 11 August 1897. The 1880 Census for Jefferson County, Wisconsin shows William (age 56) as a watchman living with his wife Eliza and four children, i.e., Henry (b. ~1855 in Wisconsin and working as a merchant), Mary Anne (b. ~1861 in Wisconsin and employed as a weaver), Martha (b. ~1862 in Wisconsin and employed also as a weaver), and Willia!
m (b. ~1866 and was still going to school). There is a relatively good chance that William's parents were Joseph Black (b. ~1791) and Anne Forsythe (b. ~1795) who were married 31 May 1807 in Dromore Parish, Down, Ireland. Wish I had more but hope this help some.

Arlin Benjamin
