Donna,
I certainly do not have the answer to your inquiry regarding Elizabeth A. Black, but I do have a record in my files on a Jerimiah Rich who was married for a very short time to a Black. The 1860 Census for South Crouch Township, Hamilton County, Illinois shows a Jeremiah Rich (age 45) living without a spouse with the following Rich children who were all born in Illinois (probably Hamilton County), i.e., Elizabeth (age 20), John (age 18), William (age 16), Emory (age 14), Milow (age 12), Margaret S. (age 10), Jeramiah (age 8), Rachel J. (age 5) plus the following children having the Black surname, i.e., John (age 14 born in Indiana), William (age 12 born in Indiana), Katharine (age 9 born in Illinois) and Alfred W. (age 11 months born in Illiniois). This information gives rise to a number of possibilities such as was Jeremiah's second wife's maiden name Black or was Black her married name from a previous marriage? This census data would indicate that it is likely that Jerem!
iah Rich was married to a person with the name Black for less than one year. The Jeremiah (or Jeramiah) Rich shown in the 1860 Census at age 8 appears to be the Jeremiah who married Pernesia Marsh on 1 April 1873. It is also likely that Jeremiah Rich's (age 45 in 1860) first wife was Anna Musgrave as they were married 13 October 1836 in Hamilton County, Illinois. In addition, Jeremiah and Anna probably had children in addition to those listed in the 1860 Census. I have a record of a son Joel who was 14 in 1850 and probably had married and gone out on his own by the time of the 1860 Census. Afraid that this does not help you much but maybe it will serve as food for thought.
