I've done some research on the BLACKs of Wilcox Co., Alabama because my
BLACKs were next door in Butler Co.

Descendants of Robert Black

1 Robert Black 1730 - 1776
.. +Eleanor Russell - 1820
........ 2 Robert Black 1766 - 1839
............ +Martha Keith
........ 2 William Black 1769 - 1841
............ +Viola Davis
........ 2 Samuel Black 1771 - 1828
............ +Isabella Johnson
................... 3 Robert Johnson Black 1800 - 1859
....................... +Mary Black 1800 - 1823
................... 3 Isabella Black 1808 - 1845
....................... +[1] John C. Black 1799 -
................... 3 Mary Black***
....................... +William H. Norris
................... 3 William Russell Black 1816 -
................... 3 Samuel Frank Black 1820 - 1887
....................... +Nancy Dobbs 1828 -

Black, Robert-Box 13, Pack 271:

Est. admnr. Mar. 2, 1840 by David, Jno. B. Black bound to Moses Taggart
Ord. Abbeville Dist. sum $2,000.00. Left no chn. but 3 brothers and 1 sis.
to wit: Jas. Black living, Saml. Black died before Robt. having chn. Wm.
Black no record of his death, he left chn. Mary Black married Robt. Davis
and died before Robt. Black. She had 2 chn. Eleanor wife of Joseph Carter
living, Jane wife Jno. C. Black, no record of her death. Saml. Black left 9
chn. viz. Robt. J., W. R., Saml. F., Catharine S., Rebecca Black, Jane wife
of Charles Connor, Martha wife Jno. H. Martin, Isabella wife of Jno. C.
Black, Mary wife of W. H. Norris.
---------------------------------
So it appears Mary Black Norris had three uncles Robert, James, and William.
Robert had no children. That leaves James and William who could be the
father of Melinda if Mary and Melinda Black were first cousins.

James M. Black was the security for the marriages of both Melinda and Mary
Black to W. H. NORRIS. Who was he? Melinda and Mary's uncle James? Their
cousin? Melinda's father or brother? I'm interested in knowing more about
William Black's children and learning more about James's children too.

These are my notes on William.

William Black's neighbors in Wilcox Co. in Section 30:

Robert J. Black had 80 in Section 31 Nov. 2, 1819 [See him also in Perry Co.
Ala. and later in Union Co. Ark.]

William Black and Samuel Dale sold land together on Ala. River in town of
Dale in 1827

William Black land with Nathan McPherson in 1834

Samuel Black's neighbors in Section 32 were John P. DAVIS, Josiah
Garlington, John Horn and Nathan MCPHERSON.

I have MANY more notes on this BLACK family. My main source of info on this
family has been "The Blacks of Union Co. Arkansas" by Annie Laurie Spencer.
Several other researchers of this family, including Anne Styles, Rhonda
Lunsford, and Ruth Neulan (a DAVIS researcher) have shared info with me. You
and I have been in touch also, and you mailed me a second article by Annie
Laurie Spencer. My gg-gf James M. BLACK (not the one above) was a neighbor
to a Benjamin NORRIS in Butler Co. Ala. in 1860.

If anyone has anything to add or correct, please share.
