If anyone has information on these people can you please write to me?

I am trying to find all (eleven) children of Dr. Daniel Black and his wife Mary McCarty who lived in Saint John, New Brunswick area, possibly Gagetown or Hampstead.

Their children were born between 1806 and 1824 in New Brunswick, Canada.

Their youngest daughter Rhoda Rebecca Black is 3X great grandmother to my McLean daughters. She was born April 1824.

In June 1824 Dr. Daniel Black drowned crossing a river. His widow Mary McCarty Black took her 11 children and re-located to Ontario, possibly to Wentworth County, Middlesex County, or Halton County. She had family there, Loyalists- her grandparents being Robert Land and Phoebe Scott Land.

Mary was born in either the U.S., possibly Pennsylvania or NYS, OR in New Brunswick. Dr. Daniel Black was (most likely) born in Scotland.

Two more of Dr. Daniel Black's daughters, Rhoda's sisters, were Margaret and Phoebe Ann.

I looked all through the 1880 U.S. census and Canada 1881 for any Phoebe/Pheobe/Phebe born about 1820 in NB, Canada and found a "Pheobe A." age 59 years, born New Brunswick, married to James W. COX, living in Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa.

James is age 63 years on that census, born in Virginia, and I am SURE from very quick look online that this is another Loyalist family. Pheobe lists her father born Scotland, mother New Brunswick, she and James have 2 sons: William age 18 and Daniel age 14, both born in Iowa.

I looked on the 1870 census, they were in Keokuk in that year as well, the boys were 9 and 5.

I started wondering if these were the only two children they had and also noticed that.....William would have been born about 1862, Daniel about 1866, and started thinking, did James and Phoebe start LATE in life, that's pretty unusual for that time period, so jumped back another ten years and went looking for them on the 1860 census- here is what I found:

Census taken July 11th, 1860 in Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa, page 208, Ancestry.com image #208/768:

Household #1795/1586:

James W. Cox Age 44 Born Virginia
Margaret Cox Age 44 Born New Brunswick
Elizabeth Cox " 17 Born (can't make out the state, it may be Maine...Me)
Margaret Cox " 11 Born Iowa
James Cox " 9 " "
Phoebe Black " 40 Born Canada West

So it looks like what hap. was Margaret was married to James, they had a family; Margaret died, and then James married his deceased wife's sister Phoebe. What year did Margaret die- were all of the children hers?

I look forward to hearing from someone who recognizes these families, and/or from descendants.

Thanks from Nora
