Message Board Post:
I have read the postings on your Frederick Black of Ohio. I to have some of the same names in our line. What I am very curious about is your Daniel Jr. being born in lancaster county PA. in 1776. I have been search for the parents of our George Swartz Black (Swartz middle name) he was born in Strasburg, Lancaster Pa. on Nov. 2, 1777. In 1796 he and his wife moved to Huntingdon county Pa. They had 8 sons starting with oldest to youngest. David b-1805, Martin b-1807, John b-1810, Jesse b-1816, Charles b-1816 (Twins) George b-1817,William b-1819, Robert b-1824. Your Daniel possibly could be a bother of our George Swartz Black, if not a cousin? Another thing is, do any of you who have responded to any part of this query have any pictures of your Daniel, John, or Elizabeth? We also have an Elizabeth (Lizzy) in our George line. I have a golden anniversary picture of a couple with a lot of family members in it and the writing on the back states"our golden wedding party taken July !
1916. from left to right Joe, Tom, Will, and John Smith with the hat on, he is Lizzies man." I know the Will is Will Mitchell as I have pictures of him and his wife in later years. I also was told by someone that back in early days they most always named their first born son after the grandfather. In this case George Swartz Black named his first born son David Black so if George followed that rule then his father would have been a David Black? Don't know but if anyone out there sees any comparisons with thier family of Blacks in Lancaster or Pa in general please contact me. I would be glad to scan the annniversary picture to see if any one recognizes any one on the picture. Hope to hear back Thanks. Please e-mail me directly, it is hard to find the posted replys or some reason. PS. I know for sure or George's son George born in 1817 moved to Mansfield Ohio and then on to Nebraska later on in life where he died in 1890. Thanks again for any help.
