Dear Shirley and list members,

Do you have any idea of the approximant date of birth of your Samuel Black?

My grandparents were Joseph William BLACK, born in California in 1872, and
Myrtle METTLER. My great grandparents were Samuel Brown Black, born in West
Virginia in 1832 and Miranda J. ??. Their children that I know of were:

Bertha M. BLACK 1867
Joseph William BLACK 1872 (my grandfather)
Mary L. BLACK 1875
Nellie BLACK 1882, died 1904. She never married because of the loss of a
leg, after falling under a trolley when she was 9 years old, on Long Beach
Blvd., in Long Beach, CA. She is buried next to her father, Samuel Brown
Black, in Artesia, CA.

Maybe Samuel and Miranda had other children, because Miranda was 16 years
younger than Samuel. She was only 15 when Bertha was born and 34 when Nellie
was born. Samuel didn't die until 1902, so if Bertha didn't die young they
could have had more children.

Lately there has been several other Black researchers with inquiries about
various Samuel Blacks, so maybe someone out there may have a connection.
