Hi. I'm searching for any information about my Dad's family history. My Dad, Frank Black, passed away in late 1961, at age 67. I was not born until after his death. He was one of ten children born to Rose and Melvin Black. (Well, actually the oldest 3 were from Rose's 1st marriage.) Anyway, my grandfather, Melvin Black, was born in 1850. (And here I am, only 41!) To my knowledge so far, Melvin had one brother, Thomas Black. I'm not aware of other siblings but think there must have been others. Melvin & Thomas' parents were Jacob & Jerusha (Deal) Black. I found them listed in a Waldoboro (ME) census. I had known my grandparents, Rose & Melvin, moved from Waldoboro to St. George (ME), which is where my father lived and also where I grew up. About my g-grandfather Jacob; when my Mom was still living, she had once told me that my g-grandfather had changed the family name from Schwartz (sp?) to Black. I believe she said they had come from Germany. Perhaps just a surprising coinci!
dence, but I found a Jacob Schwartz, b. 1822, Germany, in an 1880 census from Malden, Middlesex, MA. Could they be the same person? Finally, I know there are a lot of Blacks who live in this area. (I'm still living in Knox County, Maine.) I think I must be related to some I'm not aware of. (Possibly descendents of siblings other than Melvin or Thomas?) Hoping to find anyone climbing the same family tree!
Thanks.
