I know nothing of my George Black prior to his marriage in Knox County, Ohio in May of 1847 to Nancy Ann Bilsby; other than the 1850 census indicating his birth in Pennsylvania. His age at that census was 32, so I figure he was either born in 1817 and was soon to turn 33 or 1818 and just turned 32. Family lore has it that George traveled to Ohio with a brother named David and that while George settled in Ohio, David continued west. Lore also has that their father may also have been named David. George's childrens names don't include a David, nor any of the other names you mentioned, so naming patterns aren't there to help. George named his sons Orlando and George Washington. His daughters were named Mary Ann, Sarah Jane, Nancy, Mary Jane and Henrietta. The last two are thought to be by a second wife.

I believe the name Black is the americanized version of Swartz, so may I assume that you included it in your George's name not as a middle name, but to indicate that there was a name change? Anyway, thanks for responding. If I ever have any luck with my George I'll post it.
